Surround yourself with inward characters
We’ve all heard the saying by Jim Rohn, “You're the average of the five people spend the most time with.” We all know it but do we act on it? If you followed this way of living how many people would you cut out of your life right now to get the best average you can? What would you stop doing and whom would you stop doing it with? Who would you immediately unfollow on Instagram and make upset?
Think about every person in your life right now. Are they the kind of people you want in your life? Do they improve you? Are they worth your time?
Questions, questions, questions.
It can get overwhelming when you think about these things. These are no menial decisions that require minimal effort. You should think about this and don’t rush into any brass decision.
An effective way to see if they deserve, yes deserve to be in your life, are they working on their inward character. What do their actions and behaviours tell you? Are they working on themselves, or are they just going through the motions?
The more you surround yourself with people working on their inward character the more it keeps you in check to work on your own. And from there you build each other up.
Want to get fit? Surround yourself with people that go to the gym and eat healthily.
Want to become more finically literate? Surround yourself with those who are where you want to be financially.
Want to get smarter? Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
You get the idea. We waste so much time spending it with people who keep us where we currently are. Not knowing until it’s too late that you need to change the people you spend time with.
Oh, but you’re busy? Who isn’t? That means it’s the perfect time to do what you need to do. If you figure out how to do something hard when you’re busy when you have more free time, it’ll be a breeze. And when you get busy again, you’ll know that “Oh I’ve been here before, I can handle this.”
The best time to get started is now. Because that clock is ticking and it ain’t stopping. It’s going with or without you.
Find and build your tribe. The rest will follow.
Tick tock tick tock.
Until next time,
Brody
