Sex is overvalued in our culture

Everything everywhere all at once is sexualized. We see it in online ads, video games, film and television. It seems we cannot escape. This is our reality.

After all, it’s what got most Tik Tok influencers to the top, now they’re making millions and millions of dollars. It’s how the phrase “Twitch Thot” came about, through the use of over-sexualization.

Sex sells! And you know what the real cost is? Your mental health. Every time you as a young man give into the impulse to give your attention to unnecessary sexual content, you’re destroying your mental health. The danger is you don’t see it at all…. until it’s too late.

It feels great in the moment, but after…. where are you left? Feeling disgusting and disgusted with yourself that you gave yourself over to something you didn’t really wanna look at.

Everything is in moderation. Excess is never good for anyone.  How do you get over this, these advertisements and marketing campaigns are so genius and spend billions of dollars to make sure you’re glued to what they show you.

How do you break these habits? Cut things down to size.

To paraphrase Marcus Aurelius sex is just two people rubbing each other together and the explosion of fluids. What’s clapping by just the smacking of hands?

When he has a big feast at his palace – “This is just a dead pig.”

In a world where sex is overvalued because it’s a strategy to obtain power, control, seduction and make a lot of money, stop for a second and see what you’re doing. Cut it all the way down to size and you’ll see it holds no power over you and you actually hold all the power. You control yourself.

Because every time you give into these urges you’re becoming weaker. Worse, you’re becoming a slave to all your impulses and you won’t run your life. They will.

Sex has lost its specialness, and it’s up to you to make it special for you again. Something is special when you don’t have it in excess when you don’t even have it that often. That's why it’s called special. It’s not a common thing but it’s an amazing feeling we you do or have something and it gives you that sparkly feeling. That’s what special is.

So, the next time you feel like giving yourself over to harmful, unnecessary sexualized content which is going to throw you off from the main thing you should be doing. Stop, cut it down. Get back to work. Get back to living.

Until next time,

Brody
