It’s All About The Before

We get so surprised when things don’t go the way we planned them. We feel disheartened when the result isn’t exactly how we imagined. We thought we were ready but reality smacked us in the face and it turns out we were far from it.

Our hopes and expectations were far beyond what our skill level could actually bring us. We knew that deep down inside… but we didn’t want to face the truth.

I call it The True Voice. This isn’t the inner voice that talks you out of something because you’re not good enough, this isn’t the voice that pumps you up and becomes your cheerleader whenever you want.

This is the voice inside of you… deep down that always keeps it real with you, it never lies, never cries but is always wise. It has your back the whole time and will stick by you but it will never sugarcoat anything. It ALWAYS tells you the truth, no matter how painful it is, you can always rely on it to guide you.

We don’t listen to this voice enough, because we are scared. So so so many of us live in fear of the future and things that haven’t even happened yet. We worry so much about what is going to happen rather than living in the present moment and making things happen now.

We know exactly what we need to do. Every single one of us knows how to get healthy, how to work hard, and how to be in a healthy relationship. The trouble is no one wants to do it! Because it takes work, it takes effort, it takes time, it takes tension.

We humans hate tension because it’s the opposite of the comfort zone, it’s like that fly constantly buzzing around and landing on us coming back again and again until you put your full attention to it and deal with it.

The emotion of fear has wasted more potential, creativity and innovation by humans than anything has ever done. Millions of us live in fear for years until it’s too late to create and build the live we always wanted. And then regret haunts us for the rest of our life.

Do you want to be one of these people?

Why not…?

Really ask yourself that. Sit with it, meditate on it, go for a long walk into nature without your phone and ponder on these questions.

Don’t seek the answer as Rainer Maria Rilke said, live within the question/s. Be guided by these questions and let the answer come before you naturally. I’m paraphrasing what he is saying but it gets the point across.

Then how do we line up our expectations with our skill level so we aren’t overcome by fear? The fear is still there… it’s never going away, but we do things despite it… we do what is required, we do the boring work.

Prepare Prepare Prepare. The whole quality of our lives can come down to how well be prepare, day by day, month by month, season by season, year by year. The more we prepare the more ready we will feel and the less anxiety we will feel. It’s all about The Before. What you do Before, the time you put in Before, the quality of training Before. Before Before Before.

And it’s all feelings at the end of the day, a bunch of sensory experience that will either propel us forward or hold us back.

What did you do Before you had to do the thing you were meant to do?

I’ll leave you with something from someone who is far wiser than me and who will probably stay far wiser with the brilliant work he has shared with the world.

“Some of the worst things in my life never even happened” - Mark Twain

Until next time,
